some
reviews
"What highlights the conflicts and contrasts are first and foremost Aurora Damanti's costumes, capable of underlining the antagonisms of class and aspiration that run through the work: if Firs (a poignant Tino Rossi) is an old man in a wheelchair, wearing a dark suit and a bow tie, the familiar humanity that gathers around Ranevskaja's exasperated — and exasperating — body and gestures is instead a caravanserai of colors and fabrics, of acetate tracksuits and leggings combined with sequins and fleece pyjamas, of bright ties on shoes that are too big or too old, of leather trousers worn under oversized jackets. We imagine them fishing, with a marked taste for excess, among the offers of a second-hand clothing shop, these characters who enter the scene from the back of the stalls, announced by a self-confident Lopachin — the ambiguous, extraordinary Mario Pirrello — in his anonymous, clerical grey uniform. of those who have been able to free themselves from their origins. Here they are, these protagonists of a contemporary bohème..." (...)

"The costumes, by Aurora Damanti, also emphasize the characters (Firs' tuxedo, Trofimov's Snoopy t-shirt, the bright sundresses and the acetate trousers), using a vintage style that goes well with the sense of nostalgia and decadence that envelops the scene..". (...)
(Ilaria Rossini, www.teatroecritica.net, July 31, 2024)
"In front of the red chairs of the Caio Melisso, the historic theatre of Spoleto, colourful second-hand clothes parade on a bare stage: sweatshirts, T-shirts, tracksuits from the flea market, with some jackets and ties, a tuxedo, a yellow pyjama set with black stripes made of fleece (it's cold at night in the comedy,
in Russia, in the Cherry House), an elegant double-breasted suit. A neon-lit ceiling looms over the actors, rises in more airy moments, lowers to represent a beach on the lake..."(...) "This final Cherry Orchard is a ‘thoughtlessly’ colorful show, of costumes and moods, a tragic comedy or a comic tragedy, as the author would have liked..." (...) "The imaginative costumes are by Aurora Damanti, the sets and lights by Nicolas Bovey, the sound, delicate and insidious, by Franco Visioli".
